About VGB Studios

Hello, my name is Cory Vincent I would like to welcome you to VGB Studios. What is VGB Studios you ask? Well I’m happy to tell you that VGB Studios is a collective network of some of the best independent podcasts that you probably have not heard of. While we don’t have the backing of a major company or hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on advertising, every single podcast you hear on this network is professionally hosted, produced, and 100% authentic.

My life is a testament to the power of podcasting. Before starting the Videogame BANG! Podcast with my friend Aaron in July 2013, I was honestly at my absolute lowest point in life. My wife and I had just gone through a miscarriage, my father had relapsed into a life of drug abuse and violence, and I was in the middle of a depression struggling with hypochondria.

Desperate for an outlet, Aaron and I had been talking about starting a podcast for years. One day I had finally hit a breaking point and built a make-shift studio out of some dusty equipment from my garage that I had collected from my years as a drummer in a rock band. I called Aaron and told him that we are doing this. From very early on we learned that with technology being the way it is… ANYBODY can start a podcast. We listened to a lot of the competition and generally the audio quality was bad, the hosts would speak on top of each other, and their attitudes were amateur. That is why with VGB we made it a pillar of our mission that we were going to separate ourselves from the rest of the indie shows in the area with awesome sound quality, great guest interviews, professionalism, and most importantly maintain brutal honesty.

We honed our craft before catching the ear of Los Angeles based entertainment website NerdReactor.com, who really loved our show and supported our cause. We partnered with NR as podcasters and writers, established more credibility, attained bigger guests, a bigger audience, and access to cover events like E3 and San Diego Comic Con. To keep up with the growth of everything we even added a third partner in longtime friend David Webb.

As we grew in notoriety online and in our local community the VGB team began attending conventions up and down California and into Nevada as guest speakers. We started performing the podcast LIVE for Wizard World Comic Con, and Sac Anime. We have been brought into conventions like the Sacramento Indie Arcade and Sac Gamers Expo as featured guests. It was at around this time through sponsorships we had acquired with the help of Nerd Reactor, VGB was also able to build a professional grade podcasting studio.

The studio was a dream I had been kicking around for a long time, and with my background working in electronics we made an unbelievable 100% DIY custom studio with the help of some great sponsors and more importantly some very talented people who believed in me. When we launched the studio itself it was only fitting to name it in tribute to the original podcast that started it all, so we named it VGB Studios.
By the launch of VGB Studios, my life had gotten too fun and exciting to worry about hypochondria. Podcasting became therapy and I was able to channel the pain, fear, and hatred that I had been carrying around into comedy and share my experiences to help listeners. I believe in the power of the podcast with all of my being. I want VGB Studios to be a network of podcasts that brings talented people who have stories to tell and an audiences to entertain together.

So many people, even myself for a many years, just sit back and say ‘Maybe someday I will…’ or ‘Man I wish we could…’ Even to this day VGB Studios is just a passion project and everyone involved still works full time jobs. The goal is to motivate more people to pursue their passions. From the hosts you hear on the different shows, to the people designing and maintaining the websites I truly believe we have assembled a group of the most talented and deserving group of extraordinary people to make this network a success. The goal is to follow our dreams and maybe… just maybe… do what millions of people only fantasize about… that’s make a living doing what we love.
