First-Person Coming to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds this Month

Good news for fans of the runaway hit, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegounds! Brendan Greene, the creator of the game, confirmed via twitter yesterday that dedicated first-person servers will be available in the July monthly update. The update, due in roughly 2 weeks, will also include a much requested Field Of View slider, as confirmed, also on twitter, by Smookie, one of the game’s developers. First-person servers are typically referred to as Hardcore, this is due to the fact that in the regular third-person mode, players who camp in buildings have the advantage of being able to hide and watch for enemies simultaneously, a relatively low risk strategy. First-person adds an additional layer of difficulty by limiting the player’s awareness of the area around them, this means sneaky ninja ganks when you least expect it.

But don’t get too excited just yet, in a follow up tweet, Greene explained that the first-person  servers are only going to be available to the North American and European regions and will only support SOLO & DUO games for the time being. Once the system has been completed and polished they will expand support to other regions. Don’t expect this feature to be completed overnight, however, as earlier this week Greene himself explained that implementing first-person will be more technically challenging than fans might expect. Here’s the quote, posted by Greene to the PUBG official Discord:

“Dedicated first-person servers will take some time as it requires a lot of work from all teams, [it’s] not as easy as just flipping a switch. Our game, platform, engineering, and gameplay teams all need to do work to make it happen, and they are all quite busy with optimization work at the moment!”

No word just yet on when we can expect this feature to become available for more regions and for the rest of the game modes. If Greene’s quote is any indication, this might take some time as they tackle any bugs that come along with the update. For now we’ll just have to wait and see ( Get it, ‘see’?)
